Yep, I got me a new Remmington 700.
I decided to take it target shooting, loved it, and took it hunting last November.
Bagged one that was 4 points, about 350. Tiny little thing, but i'm still eating the meat.
Yeah, yeah, enough yappin. PICS!

Stood it next to me for a slight sense of scale...

...And then realized some of you haven't seen me and have no idea how tall I am. Set it down next to a clothing tape and got some close up shots of...

...The Barrel End...

...And The Stock in, which means it rings in at 46 1/2" from barrel to Stock.

Hey buddy remember rule #1 of weapons safety "treat every weapon as if it is loaded" not very wise putting your hand over the muzzle

Rule 1 is a Moot point if there's No Bolt and firing pin in the chamber.

Um......never a moot point, safety 1st at all times. HotRod is an accomplished marine with extensive weapons training. I am an ex-sheriff with extensive training and have taught hunters safety courses. Just take it as constructive critisim please and don't get offended there bud. It is a public site and you want to show that you are just as safe to handle the responsibility. Don't give the anti-gun nuts "ammo" to their cause to take away our rights--:D .
That being said, I love the Remi 700. Such a nice rifle. I should post pics of mine. You have a nice firearm there.
Vikedal is right, removing the bolt and firing pin is sufficent enough to be able to mess around with the rifle, how else would you be able to clean it, paint it, ship it? and if you go by military standards then performing a simple visual inspection of the chamber is enough to declare a weapon "cleared", and after that you can do anything you want to them. Rule #1 should be read "treat every uncleared weapon as loaded". Nice rifle by the way!

True point but in the pic it is not in view to see the bolt which contains the firing pin (I also have this rifle in 30-06) and you still should never cover the muzzle with your hand as a good practice. As we were trained you practice how you play & play how you practice. I have lost many a friend to the "unloaded Weapon" and know of several others who are paralyzed or dismembered. It is a nice rifle though

Also to ship a firearm there must be a lock device through the chamber

He also has a picture of himself holding this rifle in the lounge section under getting to know each other. In this picture his finger is on the trigger and the bolt is in. Totally unsat.

Bolt's Not in in that picture either. Look Close, That's where the bolt goes. If you see me holding the rifle, and you don't see a projection sticking back about 4-5" from the ejecting area, Either:
A) No Bolt.
B) I'd better be shooting it, because it's flat out retarded to have the bolt In firing position unless you're pointing at a valid target.
I'll get a clearer pic of the bolt area later, but for now, look at pic 1. No bolt (It's hard to see, but the gun would be resting on the bolt handle, and therefore raised 2-3", if the bolt were in.)
