I got a choice review for Hinkle Family Fun Center paintball, because I think it needs said.
Last Wendsday I went and I felt as if all of paintball was being hurt by this arena. I went and had a total of 3 different ref's, the first one was a trainee. Small kid /w curly hair. He was very kind and knew his stuff, but was no loud enough to call "3 2 1 go" and more then 3 times only 1 or 2 people heard him and shot the other team while they were waiting for the countdown. When he called people out he'd just point and say "player is hit, let him out" but he pointed very generaly and caused confusion on who was actually out. (Called out an entire team at once by mistake. Entire team was all at diff bunkers) besides that he was fine.
2nd ref was a bigger guy. About 6ft and "chubby" in the most kind way possible. This ref just pissed me off, his attitude about his job ruined a bit. When you called for a paint check it felt like he ignored you, did not check that everyone was starting correctly and just plain didn't give a shit.
3rd ref's name was Zack. By far the most decent ref, his calls were loud you can tell who hes calling out, was very nice and clearly knew what he was doing.
The manager "Conrad"? was there, he seemed to just sit around. Acted so chill that he also didn't seem to care.
The field is my biggest complaint, we started the day and only 1 side of the field had enough bunkers, the other had 2. 4 were close but to far that you couldn't get to them without being shot off the break. Moving from them was very hard, even for some of the pros that came out. At night, only 1 side of the field was lit well. So it was very 1 sided because one side of the field was faded and you couldnt see the difference between a person and the back net.
There was only 2 can and 1 Dorito. All were close together and on the same side of the field. Everything else was Beams and SMALL arrows. Every single bunker was THICKLY covered in old muddy paint, that stuck to you and your equipment if you touched it. I don't at all like Oakflats city field, but some bunkers you couldnt even see the color of the bunker. All of them were not inflated correctly so they would bend inward if you touched them. Not 1 bunker was tied down. If you knocked a bunker it would roll away from you or fall over. This made it VERYYYYYYYYY hard to jump over bunkers, slid into the back, or hide behind without being very very careful. 2 times i was behind a bunker, it was shot and fell over. (Causing me to get hit and call out) The paint they make you buy is very decent, I like it but if I had a choice would prob go with the stuff thats not $75 a case.
I noticed that no one was checked to chrono their gun, and one guy was shooting 310 on his 98 before I asked him to chrono it. He toned it down to 275 but not after throwing a fit and the ref going "huh what? turn it down and lets go" from other side of the staging area. One kid has his gun on full auto, but it didn't matter. It was some starter gun with Grav feed hopper so all it did was spit out dust. Good gun but he didn't have a clue till I told him. (Ref said nothing)
It was fun, but there were so many little things you had to think about that I had a hard time focusing on the game. (Not knocking over bunkers, lising for refs, wondering why there isnt a forward bunker for a good 15ft...)
I liked that they did paint checks for you, not used to that. it helped alot but the 2nd ref felt like he would just stare at you till you actually were out while you were waiting for him to say something.
If that had been my 1st time doing paintball, I would not of done it again.
Was this an off day for them or is it always like that?
